Asclepias tuberosa
A magnet for butterflies that are attracted by the
clusters of small bright orange flowers and copious
amount of nectar. An impressively bright display is
produced during summer, followed by long (6") pointed
pods which make excellent dried flower arrange ments.
Extremely drought tolerant so perfect for containers and
borders. Prefers well-drained soil in sun. Height
75-90cm (30-36"). Spread 30cm (12"). Fully hardy

alongside a bench, the fragrance enhances well-being and you will be fascinated

Agastache
No two days will be the same in your summer garden as

Compact, evergreen scented foliage is loved by bees and
butterflies but deer and slug resistant. Drought tolerant,

are held closer to the foliage than other varieties. Strong
square stems hold spikes of violet purple flower heads

Forget the usual brutish Knautia, this new cousin is much better behaved and just
as loved by bees and butterflies. Magenta pink pin-cushion like blooms are held on
wiry stems from June to August and make a stunning contrast against the compact
creamy white and green variegated ‘lightning bolt' like foliage. Low maintenance
ground cover that is perfect in borders and containers. Good as cut and dried flowers.

(Strawberry Foxglove) AGM
Large bell-shaped blooms up to 6cm long, the colour of
crushed strawberries appear on stately spires in spring
and early summer. Shorter than some varieties, so much
better for a windy garden. Digitalis are known for being
short lived, but seed can be collected as the new plants
will retain all of the characteristics. Attractive to bees.
Prefers well-drained soil in full or part shade. Height

Corydalis anthriscifolia Blackberry Wine Corydalis
Talk about flower power! These are our most showy and floriferous Corydalis yet,
both flowering from May to September with clusters of tubular blooms over blue
green foliage. Blackberry Wine has a cascading habit, with clusters of fragrant
flowers. Perfect for baskets and containers or as groundcover. While Canary Feathers
is a little more upright, but still happy in containers or in borders, under trees or tall
shrubs. Prefers moist well-drained soil in full or part shade. Height and spread 30cm

An old favourite brought up to date. The reason for their common name is obvious
as each little rosy red, heart shaped flower has an extension that looks just like a
droplet of blood. Also known as ‘Lady in the Bath' because if you pick a flower, turn
it upside down and squeeze, the ‘lady' throws up her arms in horror at being spied
upon in her bathtub. Up to fifteen nodding flowers appear along arching purple stems
in late spring and early summer over clumps of maroon tinged green ferny foliage.

Becky was discovered in the 1960's, blooming proudly in a summer garden.
The owner was approached and agreed to sell a clump. Since then Becky has
become the mainstay of many a florist's shop, because of her sturdy stems
and endless large single daisy flowers. Flowering from early summer to late
autumn, they are great for cutting, attractive to butterflies and slug resistant.
Tolerant of all soil conditions in sun or part shade. Height 75cm (30").

Penstemon are the insomnia party animals of the plant world that do without sleep
for six months of the year. Summer arrives and they start flowering, summer ends
and they are still at it, autumn comes around and they still show no signs of tiring.

Everybody loves Alstroemeria as they give copious
exotic looking blooms from June to November that
last for up to 14 days in a vase! These varieties have
been specially selected as they are difficult to find and
if you do manage to find them they are often quite
expensive. Great for cutting and happy in borders and
containers. Dead head by pulling the flower's stem
gently from the bottom of the plant, the resulting
‘wound' then initiates new flowers. Prefers well-
drained soil in a partly shaded sheltered site.
