Women's History Review The Women's Charter: American Communists and the Equal Rights Amendment debate View full textDownload full text Full access Denise Lynn* Publishing models and article dates explained Published online: 23 Apr 2014 Article Views: 8 Alert me Abstract The American Communist Party (CPUSA) opposed the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), arguing that it failed to ameliorate class and racial inequality. In 1936 the CPUSA participated in the Women's Charter campaign, an alternative to the ERA crafted to protect labor legislation. This article argues that the Charter campaign and the CPUSA's opposition to the ERA demonstrate class-based visions of equality that amalgamated race and gender into the class struggle and highlights disagreements among women's rights activists about how to define women's equality. These disagreements prevented a unified single-issue women's movement after 1920.

Lecithin Microemulsion Based Systems for Dermal Delivery of Drugs: A S. Khode, M. Lalan* Department of Pharmaceutics, Babaria Institute of Pharmacy, Vadodara, Gujarat, India. ABSTRACT The purpose of this review is to give an insight into the considerable potential of lecithin based nanocarriers. The lecithin microemulsion and closely related microemulsion based systems are currently of interest to pharmaceutical researchers. Conventional systems for topical delivery of drugs meet many hindrances like reduced permeation and entrapment efficiency. Lecithin nanocarriers with their enhanced bioavailability of drugs present a viable option to address the drawbacks of conventional formulations. Soya and egg lecithin are widely being explored. However, the purity of lecithin plays a significant role in gelation process. The review encompasses lecithin microemulsions, lecithin based microemulsion gels, pluronic lecithin gels and lecithin stabilized microemulsion based hyrogels in improving the topical delivery of drugs. Biocompatible lecithin based systems are known to furnish ways of many promising discoveries in the field of safe and efficacious topical dosage forms. Entomology Circular No. 406 Fla. Dept. Agric. & Consumer Services Division of Plant Industry The Present Status and a Review of the Brown Recluse and Related Spiders, Loxosceles spp. (Araneae: Sicariidae), in Florida1 INTRODUCTION: The brown recluse spider, Loxosceles reclusa Gertsch & Mulaik (Figs. 1-2, 6), is frequentlyreported in Florida as a cause of necrotic lesions in humans. For example, in the year 2000 alone, Loft (2001) reportedthat the Florida Poison Control Network had recorded nearly 300 alleged cases of brown recluse bites in the state; asubset of 95 of these bites was reported in the 21 counties (essentially central Florida) under the jurisdiction of theregional poison control center in Tampa. I called the Florida Poison Control Network to confirm these numbers, and wascited 182 total cases and 96 in the Tampa region. The actual numbers are less important than the fact that a significantnumber of unconfirmed brown recluse spider bites are reported in the state every year. Yet not one specimen of brownrecluse spider has ever been collected in Tampa, and the only records of Loxosceles species in the entire region are fromOrlando and vicinity. A general review of the brown recluse, along with a critical examination of the known distributionof brown recluse and related spiders in Florida, seems in order at this time.

Therefore, in the present study, the effects of high and low dosesof Δ9-THC were compared in the ICSS procedure and the open-field test. Moreover, the involvement ofCB1 receptors in tentative Δ9-THC-induced effects was investigated by pre-treating the animals with theCB1 receptor antagonist SR141716A (rimonabant). The results obtained show that low doses of Δ9-THCinduce opposite effects from high doses of Δ9-THC. Specifically, 0.1 mg/kg Δ9-THC decreased ICSSthresholds and produced hyperactivity, whereas 1 mg/kg increased ICSS thresholds and produced hypo-activity. Both effects were reversed by pre-treatment with SR141716A, indicating the involvement of CB1receptors on these actions. Altogether, our results indicate that Δ9-THC can produce acute activating effectsin locomotion that coincide with its reward-facilitating effects in the ICSS paradigm. The present findingsprovide further support that Δ9-THC induces behaviours typical of abuse and substantiate the notion thatmarijuana resembles other drugs of abuse.

Journal of Advancement in Medicine Volume 8, Number 2, Summer 1995 The Basis for Microcurrent Electrical Therapy in Conventional Medical Practice Joseph M. Mercola, DO and Daniel L Kirsch, PhD, DAAPM The use of electricity in medicine is not new. Clinicians used it over 150 years ago to treat non-union bone fractures. Electomedicine and nutrition, abandoned early in this century, have been recently revived. Most physicians are unaware of their therapeutic benefits. Electrotherapy, especiaily microcurrent electrical therapy (MET) is usefil for a variety of clinical conditions. Indeed, it may be the best treatment for many pain-related disorders, providing fast relief of symptoms and quickly promoting healing. It has significantly less side effects than drugs in chronic conditions. The more advanced MET devices can often demonstrate effectiveness with a simple two minute office procedure, allowing validity to be quickly assessed.

ORIGINAL SUBMISSION Spirulina platensis GRAS self affirmation 7-1-2011 Executive Summary The objective of this Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) determination is to summarize the available safety information on Spirulina platensis, which is used as an ingredient in foods and beverages. We, the undersigned expert panel members, Susan Cho, Ph.D., Joanne Slavin, Ph.D., and George C. Fahey, Jr., Ph.D., have individually and collectively critically evaluated the materials summarized in the Spirulina platensis GRAS report. We conclude that Spirulina platensis is safe and GRAS for its intended use in food. There is broad-based and widely disseminated knowledge concerning the chemistry and health benefits of Spirulina platensis in both human and animals. Pursuant to 21 CFR § 170.30, this GRAS determination for Spirulina platensis is based on scientific procedures. There are no indications of significant adverse effects related to Spirulina platensis in the publicly available literature, and the manufacturing process of Spirulina platensis does not employ any treatments with organic solvents. In the United States, Spirulina platensis has been already recognized as a GRAS substance since 2003 (FDA, GRN 000127). Since that time, several toxicity and human clinical studies have been published to report higher values of safe intake levels than the previously reported. This GRAS notice captures the findings from recent studies.

Abstract The doctrine of equivalents and its limitations are a determining element in the balance between the certainty of the protection granted by a patent and the restriction of such protection so far as it is convenient for the community. This balance is at the base of the industrial property system and the tension between its two ends characterizes the legally protected object in the crimes of patent infringement. This paper seeks to show, in the light of comparative law, the relevance of this doctrine for the interpretation of the crimes under Article 52 of Law Nr. 19.039, in particular as regards the terms "patented invention", "patented process" and "imitate an invention patent application pending" when it comes to contrast a patented (or patent application pending) invention or process with an allegedly infringing invention or process.
